Just a 10 minute ferry ride from downtown Nanaimo, we hope that you will feel comfortable in our 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. From the hot tub you can look at stunning views across the strait to the spectacular cliffs of Gabriola Island. Looking out the kitchen and third bedroom windows you can watch the sun set over the city of Nanaimo and drop down behind Mt. Benson. Protection Island Beach House is located on the southern tip of Protection Island, a stones throw or a ten minute ferry ride from downtown Nanaimo, BC. Our home has been tastefully renovated with custom wood finishing throughout. Much of the wood was milled right here on the property. Our mandate was to use recycled and repurposed materials wherever possible. From the moment you walk into the house the ever changing view instantly relaxes.
The wood stove keeps you warm and cozy in the winter, or warm up in the out door hot tub while watching the eagles soar overhead. In the summer our sandy beach is great for warm afternoon swims. Take the canoe out and paddle around the island, about an hour if you\'re in full swing and on island time. Our kitchen is fully equipped and the fridge and freezer can be prestocked with delicious ingredients featuring the best Vancouver Island has to offer, when arranged.
Three bedrooms offer ample space for 3 couples, or a family with children, we also have double mattresses for an additional 2 people, the master bedroom is very large allowing floor space for these additional mattresses. Please see our website for more details and additional photos protectionislandbeachhouse.com

In the Area:
One of the best "activities" to enjoy is boat watching. This exceptional location allows for hours of endless enjoyment watching boats going by. Not only is the harbour of Nanaimo a popular stop for boaters cruising the gulf islands it is also Vancouver Islands main port for shipping goods to and from the Island. Newcastle Island, located directly north of Protection, is a Marine Provincial Park and when the tide is low enough is accesible by land from Protection. When the tide is high there is an hourly ferry that runs to this island where you can picnic, swim, bike or hike. If you didn't already stop on the way here, it's essential to visit the Dinghy Dock Pub when you're staying on Protection Island. Canada's only floating pub offers great local food and live music. There is a special section for kids and they can even go fishing right through the dock while you wait for your meal to arrive!
If you like to kayak, or even if you've never tried it before, Protection Island Beach House offers an exceptional launch for any level of kayaker. Let us know ahead of time and we can have the kayaks dropped off at our beach and even arrange lessons. This 'put in' is the gateway to many scenic day trips in one of Vancouver Islands premier kayaking grounds, the southern gulf islands.
